Checkout Questions
Checkout questions let you collect the information you need alongside an order, such as a student's class or a preferred collection time.
Checkout questions are available on product fundraisers. Crowdfunding campaigns and donation pages have a fixed checkout that collects a name, an email, an optional message, and the option to hide the donor's name, so there are no custom questions to configure.
Adding and editing questions
Open your fundraiser settings and go to the Ordering tab. From there you can add questions, edit the wording, and remove ones you no longer need. Each question has a name, a description, and a field type: free text, a single-choice dropdown, a multi-choice dropdown, or a checkbox.
Required and optional
Each question can be marked required or optional. A required question has to be answered before the supporter can pay.
Keep required questions to the ones you genuinely cannot process the order without. Every extra field costs you a few completed orders.
Checkout questions and item options are different things
Checkout questions are asked once per order, on the customer details step, alongside the name and email fields.
Item options are a separate feature. They are attached to catalogue items rather than to the fundraiser, so a supporter answers them for each item they add to their basket. Sizes, flavours and similar choices work this way.
If supporters report being asked the same thing several times in one order, it is usually an item option rather than a checkout question. Check your catalogue options as well as the Ordering tab.
Do not ask who they are supporting in Teams mode
If you are running Teams mode, do not add a "which player are you supporting?" question. It is already handled.
Each team member has their own fundraising link, and supporters who arrive through it are attributed automatically. Anyone who arrives through the main campaign link gets a built-in Referrer field at checkout where they pick the member they are supporting. It is prefilled and locked when a member's link was used.
An extra question on top of that is redundant and confuses supporters, who then answer it inconsistently. If you have one, remove it from the Ordering tab.
Changing an answer after checkout
You can edit an order after it has been placed. Open the order from the orders page and use the edit control next to the field you want to change, including the assigned team member.
If a question is required when you did not set it to be
Check the Ordering tab first to confirm the setting. If a question is marked optional but is still blocking checkout, contact us with your campaign name and the question, and we will look at it.
