AML / KYC and Sanctions Compliance

How Raised maintains a safe and compliant fundraising environment

Last updated: 21 January 2026

Raised is operated by Glassrope Limited (NZBN 9429046112989). We are committed to maintaining a safe and compliant fundraising environment in accordance with New Zealand and Australian law.

This page explains how Raised meets its Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), and sanctions obligations when operating the platform.

This compliance statement should be read in conjunction with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Our Compliance Program

Raised operates its own KYC, AML, and sanctions screening processes. This includes:

  • Identity verification via Didit.me
  • Sanctions screening via dedicated AML screening tools
  • Campaign legitimacy controls
  • Account banning and enforcement capabilities

Raised does not handle or hold funds directly. All online payments, refunds, and payouts are managed by Stripe.

Customer Due Diligence (CDD)

All campaign organisers and beneficiaries are verified prior to campaign activation using Raised's own verification system. Campaigns remain paused until identity verification is complete.

Identity Verification

Raised integrates with Didit.me for automated identity verification. Users complete verification by:

  • Uploading a government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's licence)
  • Completing a live selfie check for biometric matching
  • Submitting documents for authenticity checks

Information Collected

  • Full legal name (from government-issued ID)
  • Date of birth
  • Document type and issuing country
  • Residential address
  • Phone number and email

For organisations, Raised also collects identity verification of the authorised representative and beneficial owner information for all individuals owning 25% or more.

Manual document review by the Compliance Officer is available as a secondary verification method when automated verification is insufficient.

Sanctions Screening

Raised operates an automated AML screening system that checks users against major international sanctions and watchlist databases, including:

  • The New Zealand Russia Sanctions Register
  • The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Consolidated List
  • The United Nations Security Council Sanctions List
  • OFAC (US Office of Foreign Assets Control) Specially Designated Nationals List
  • UK HM Treasury Sanctions List
  • EU Consolidated Sanctions List

The system also checks PEP (Politically Exposed Persons) lists and adverse media sources.

Raised only supports fundraisers within New Zealand and Australia. Users located outside these countries or associated with sanctioned regions are not eligible to use the platform.

Ongoing Monitoring

The Compliance Officer monitors activity for red flags, including:

  • Sudden donation spikes or large single contributions
  • Repeated small donations from the same source
  • Vague or unverifiable campaign purposes
  • Multiple campaigns created in rapid succession
  • Activity inconsistent with typical community fundraising

Existing users are re-screened every six months, whenever major sanctions updates are released, when user information is updated, or when suspicious activity is detected.

Campaigns that appear suspicious may be suspended or terminated while reviewed by our Compliance Officer.

Reporting and Cooperation

If we identify any activity that could relate to money laundering, terrorism financing, or sanctions evasion, we will:

  • Notify Stripe immediately, and
  • Cooperate with the New Zealand Police Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) or AUSTRAC as required by law.

We do not tolerate the use of Raised for unlawful purposes.

Record-Keeping and Privacy

All AML records, including identity documents, risk assessments, monitoring notes, and sanctions screening results, are retained securely for at least five years after the customer relationship ends.

Data is stored in encrypted systems accessible only to authorised personnel. Access is restricted and audit trails are maintained.

Personal information is protected under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and Australian Privacy Principles, and handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Contact and Oversight

Compliance is overseen by Raised's Compliance Officer, who has full authority to suspend or terminate suspicious campaigns, ban user accounts for policy violations, escalate reports to Stripe, the New Zealand Police Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), or AUSTRAC as required, and maintain AML records.
