Fundraising on Behalf of an Organisation
Raised welcomes fundraisers run for organisations of all kinds: schools and PTAs, sports clubs, charities, community groups, and political parties or their local branches. Because these campaigns collect money on behalf of a group rather than an individual, we run a short verification step before the campaign goes live. This page explains what we check and how to clear it quickly.
Are You an Individual or an Organisation?
The right setup depends on how your group is structured, not its size.
- Informal groups (a PTA, a small sports team, a class trip) that are not a separate legal entity can register as an individual account. In this case your account and connected Stripe account should be in the name of the person running the fundraiser.
- Registered organisations (registered charities, incorporated societies, companies, and political parties or their local branches) collect money that legally belongs to the organisation. For these, your account and connected Stripe account must be in the organisation's name, not a personal one.
Being small doesn't make you informal. A local branch or chapter of a larger body, such as a regional club affiliated to a national association, or a local chapter of a charity or membership organisation, is legally part of that registered organisation. It follows the registered-organisation path even if it operates like a small volunteer group.
What We Verify
For a fundraiser run on behalf of a registered organisation, we look for two things before approving it.
1. The Account Matches the Organisation
The connected Stripe account (and your Raised account name) must match the organisation you're raising for. We can't approve a fundraiser for an organisation where the money would land in an individual's personal Stripe account.
This protects everyone involved:
- It keeps the funds clearly identified as the organisation's money.
- It keeps a clean, traceable record of where donations went, which matters for the organisation's own accounting and, for regulated bodies like political parties and charities, for their reporting obligations.
- It reassures your donors that they're giving to the organisation they intended to support.
If your account is currently set up as a personal one, you can either:
- Create or connect a Stripe account in the organisation's name, or
- If the fundraiser really is being run by you as an individual, rename your Raised account to your own name so the details match.
2. You're Authorised by the Organisation
For registered organisations, we ask for confirmation that you're authorised to fundraise on the organisation's behalf. The most reliable confirmation comes directly from someone in the organisation's official structure (for example a secretary, treasurer, or committee chair) rather than a document supplied by the person setting up the fundraiser.
We may ask for details such as:
- The organisation's registration or charity number (where one exists).
- A short confirmation, emailed to us from the organisation, that you're authorised to fundraise for it.
A note for political parties: Party branches don't have a business number, so we don't expect one. Instead, we ask for confirmation from the party's official structure (such as the party secretary or your electorate committee chair) that you're authorised to fundraise on the branch's behalf.
How to Get Approved
- Make sure your connected Stripe account is in the correct name: the organisation's name for a registered organisation, or your own name if you're fundraising as an individual. See How Stripe Payments Work.
- Have the organisation send us a brief confirmation that you're authorised to fundraise for it, from an official contact within the organisation.
- Let us know once both are in place, and we'll review and get your fundraiser live.
Most fundraisers clear this step with a single email once the account name is correct.
