Supporting
Torbay Sailing Club
$0.00
raised of $10,000.00
For more than 50 years, our much loved patrol boat, Lady Waiake, has been part of the Torbay Sailing Club story. She is an icon and institution in the bay at Waiake.
Built by a team including Life Member Terry Bailey, who is still an active sailor at the club, Lady Waiake has served generations of sailors, volunteers and club members for 55 years. She has survived storms and cyclones and been washed ashore on more than one occasion and has served the club incredibly well through countless sailing days, regattas and adventures on the water.
Sadly, after more than half a century of loyal service, the time has come for Lady Waiake to retire. Two years ago the club started a project for her replacement commissioning a build for a 7.5m PowerCAT. Unfortunately, the contracted boat-builder went bust which set the project back. We managed to get hold of the boat but had to put the project on hold whilst we regrouped.
The new purpose designed boat will be modern, comfortable and stable with full facilities for racing and rescue and will serve the club for many years to come.
Now we need a little help from our community to get her finished and onto the water. Our target is to have her complete in time for the 25th Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta (the largest youth regatta in the southern hemisphere) which will take place in December 2027.
Your contribution, large or small, is greatly appreciated and will help us complete the new patrol boat and give Torbay Sailing Club a safe, modern and reliable new patrol boat to support sailing and regattas for many years to come.
